I am trying to get some bucket list places lined up for future dive travel. We want to explore the Indonesia but avoid the areas know for high currents and more strenuous conditions. We are looking for shore based resorts/ areas that have close in sites, without much current or depth. Open to resorts from basic to high end. Can go with some muck, but really want to experience the reefs. Any help with past visits are greatly appreciated. Thanks

We liked Wakatobi Resort and hope to go back. We had to cancel our 2020 trip.

Manado in Northern Sulawesi.
Three areas to explore.
Some operators can offer two locations as one package. Probably only limited to Bunaken and Lembeh.

Add Papua Paradise to the above lists. Was there a couple of years ago and was impressed. Lembeh has what you are looking for - more muck than reefs, but there are reefs if that is what you want. Ambon is known for muck but has some reefs as well.

If you are at a resort by and large you will be able to avoid currents. On a liveaboard you are all going to dive at roughly the same time in the same conditions whereas in a resort they will typically send out multiple boats to completely different sites based on guests preferences and experiences. As currents bring out the fish you will find on a liveaboard most people will want to dive in current for at least some dives.

Readily accessible to Manado from Singapore. No need to deal with any domestic transfer.
Bunaken for coral. It is wall dive and there will be current but you just drift with it.
Lembeh is the epic centre for macro.
