Hi all..

My wife and I are starting to "gear up" and would like some input on where to find the best prices on the internet. Price is not the only consideration, we also want good service. But, since our costs are X2 for everything, we need reasonable prices.

I pretty much a quality-monger, I NEED good equipment. I'm hard on equipment. I don't intentionally destroy things, but I can ruin a rock. (8 years in Army Armor does that to a person!) :crush:

I know, I know, I want my cake and eat it too. But it really steams me when I buy something and see the same thing for less somewhere else. I normally enjoy buying from my LDS and will probably do that if they can get the gear I want at a reasonable price. But I need to know what's reasonable.

Tanks! (get it?)

Im out in your area for another month doing some predeployment training. Man there aint much out here in between towns is there????

Ok...it will depend on what you want in the way of bcd's. If you and the wife...or at least one of you....desire a bp and wing, go to www.northeastscubasupply.com and get their number and talk to John (no i dont work there or for him,,,just a satisfied customer.)

Even if it isnt on the website right now, tell him you want the DiveRite Transplate and wing deal for the normal $449. (they have the Transpac II too but not at same price I dont think) I got the transplate with the Rec wing and asked him to send it totally assembled and they did. I only had to tweek it. You can get either the adjustable harness with quick releases or the one piece webbing. I went with the adj harness / quick releases as I am not a tec diver and actually kinda old so getting in and out of a one piece webbing can be difficult.

This place is what DiveRite calls one of their TecRec sites and it is all top of the line DR gear with a full warrantee backed up by DR.

Take a look and see if it is for you or not. They have other options too.
Later..

Sounds to me like you're "starting to gear up" so maybe you haven't made up your minds on the manufacturers, models and configurations of your gear.

If that is the case, I highly recommend speaking with your local dive shop, leveraging the personal experience of an instructor or employee you trust, try on the stuff and make your purchase there.

If you're in the place where I was a few years ago - I'd been diving for a bit, decided on specific geat, in a specific configuration, from a specific manufacturer - that changes things. Then, its not about consultation and decision, but only about price.

I went through eBay. I rigged up 99% of my rig through eBay - from BP/W, to fins, can light, dive bag, tanks, etc, etc, etc. Ebayed all my old stuff, bought all new stuff. I used LP for my SPG, and I think I bought my mask locally.

I cannot recommend strongly enough leveraging your local shop if you're just starting to geat up. Don't rely on the stuff you read on an internet chat room (not even ours) for these important first time decisions.

But if you're upgrading or moving into a second set, rock on.

My $.02.

Thanks for the quick replies...

Setting here drinkin' coffee not much else to do.

So you're in this area Rich? Where at? I've been out for a few years (and have the waistline to prove it) and I'm new to the area. My wife and I moved here for school.

Anyway, I'm keeping my options open for right now on the style of equipment. Although I do like the Zeagle stuff, I'm not brand-locked. I don't know if the bp/w stuff is for me, I kinda like the jacket-style bc's and would prefer to go with weight intg.

Anyway, tanks again...
