Hi there, I'm looking for some advice on buying a wing and wondering if its possible to get one that I can use with a twinset or single tank - I've been looking at Halcyon and it seems like either/or. Any advice much appreciated!

There are a few wings that are marketed as a dual-purpose wing, but typically they don't function great as single wings, tending to "taco" around a single tank. They can also trap air with a single tank due to the larger size. I know a few people who have started with such a wing and eventually gotten a separate single wing to keep streamlined and simplify their singles rig. I investigated this same thing when I was getting my backplate and went with separate wings. Luckily I was able to get a very good deal on them.

The axion of jack-of all-trades-and-master-of-none also applies to wing sizes.

Get one big enough for double tank diving but using it for single tank diving and it will flop around, even with bungee tie-downs. Not to mention more difficulty in venting air.

So, yes, you can get a wing big enough to do both, but you're not going to be happy.

Singles wing and doubles wing differ in more than just capacity, they are also a different shape.

The required shape of a doubles wing will make it much more difficult to vent when used with a single cylinder.

Can one dive singles with a doubles wing or "dual purpose" wing?

Yes, but it will not be optimal.

Most divers move to a BP&W for improved streamlining, easier horizontal trim, less clutter etc. Don't put "Monster Mudders" on your MiniCooper.;)

I can attest to what Parz said. I had a rec wing.

After around 5 dives, I got rid of it for a Halcyon Eclipse. Dedicated wings are so much better.
