On a limited budget and looking to upgrade from Oly 5060 to the 330. Would be interested in a complete Olympus (not Ike) setup or just housing and port. Or bits and pieces. Thanks in advance

You may want to also consider a 10bar or Fantasea housing (I believe they are made by the same manufacturer but under different brand names). They're also plexiglas/acrylic and are just a hair cheaper.

I also upgraded from the 5060 to the E330 and bought the 10bar housing. If you go into wetpixel and do a search for Olympus E330, there is an excellent review written by Jeff Mullins on the camera and housing combo.

I was pleasantly surprised to plug my old Nikonos SB-105 strobe into the 10bar housing using the Nikonos synch cord and get it work, albeit without TTL. It's allowed me to shoot fish that I was never able to shoot before with the 5060 because they move too much and too quickly.

Good luck.

Thank you for the reply. I have already read the review by Jeff and found it useful. In fact, I've searched for a dealer of 10bar here on the US east coast, but was unable to find one. Where did you find yours? BTS is coming up and perhaps one of the vendors will have something for the 330. I have had my hands on an Oly housing for the camera and like it. As with all photo and dive gear, I'd rather handle the items prior to purchase. As for Ike, I've seen 2 flooded due to the combination of the bayonette port attachment and handler error.

In a perfect world. I'd like to find a used housing -and port(s) if possible - in good condition for a really reasonable price, as my coffers are currently rather empty.

As for the 5060 in the L&M housing, it's truly a great set up and has served me well, and will no doubt continue to do so unless I can wrap my fins around a 330 housing.

10bar is sold in Asia - I had a friend in Hong Kong get it for me. But if you get a Fantasea housing, it's pretty much the same, and I'm pretty sure that they have stateside dealers. I've even bought a couple of Fantasea items (a lens cap for the port and an arm to mount a dive light) and they fit just fine.

I have to warn you in light of your comments on the flooded Ikes that my 10bar housing uses bayonet-mount ports. But I think that the Fantaseas apparently come mostly with threaded ports.

Yeah, I understand as far as budgetary constraints: if you go with a new Fantasea housing it will still set you back over a grand. Haven't checked recently so don't know for sure.

The Dutch website Marktplaats Marktplaats - De plek om Nieuwe en Tweedehands spullen te kopen en verkopen (like Ebay) has a Fantasea E330 housing posted for 650 euros. Although it is in The Netherlands, it might be interesting for you, too.

If you need help, let me know.

Pascal

Mantha, I haven't had time to respond to your other post in my thread on the housing. But, thanks for the heads up Always nice when someone else is helping you out as well. I think I'm going to stick with the Ike housing though.

George.
