Hey, I'm going on charter to Lake Superior and I'm looking for any info on these wrecks; Superior City, The Zillah, Samuel Mather, Panther, Comet, The Sadie Thompson, and The Viennna. I've done the usual web searches but if anyone knows any good sites on any of these wrecks some feedback would be great! If there are any books out there that you can recommend, I am always looking at adding new books to the collections. DVD's and movies are good too.

Thanks
Jody

an excellent book is the great lakes diving guide by chris kohl..it has a lot of info on just about every wreck in the great lakes..

Actually, I've been wanting to pick that one up for a awhile now but our Dive shop has been out of it. Thanks

Aside from the Cris Kohl books and what you can find on the web about these wrecks, I don't have much more to suggest. Some of these dives are pretty deep and most are in (really) excellent condition! Unless things have changed since last summer you're going to need to bring your own gases for the deeper stuff, even hyperfiltered air is a problem. You're going to love the diving in Whitefish Bay but be prepared for some weather (including big water with short cycles) and plan ahead. A good way to spend a weather day is at the lighthouse and the museum - they're at the tip of the point and a nice little detour. It's also worth the drive into the Taquahmenon park to see the falls and to drink the beer. ;)

Mix won't be a problem, we diving froma livaboard. As for the weather, we're just hoping for the best!! but the museum is definately of interest. Thanks

And dont forget about the BEER Gator. That was an important piece of info.

Hey gatorboy,

Cliff up at Limestone in Kingston has lots of those Chris Kohl books in stock. Give him a call 800 286-3483. I am sure he will be more than happy to help you out.

There is a book that is sold at the Traveler's Inn in Paradisel. It's soft cover, rather low key and I doubt it was ever sold in mass production. It has great info on the White Fish Point wrecks.

JUst pulled it off my bookshelf... "EXPLORE GREAT LAKES SHIPWRECKS VOLUME III" - Known wrecks around Whitefish Point and the surrounding area by Kimm A. Stabelfeldt. The website listed inside is: www.execpc.com/~drewitz/

And this takes you to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point. www.shipwreckmuseum.com/

Whitefish Point is a wonderful area to dive!

BTW - What's the liveaboard charter / operator?

We're using the Dawn Light out of tobermory. He's actually going to be up there already, so a group of us out of St.Catharines Ontario are going to meet him up there.

The book you mentioned was actually on my list of maybe's. I'll order it for sure now. It's kind of nice having feedback before you waste money on something you're not sure about.
Thanks
