We are thinking about spending a week in mid-July in La Paz, Baja at the Costa Baja Resort & Spa. We will be diving most days, probably with The Cortez Club dive op. We have never been to La Paz. Looking at past posts it looks like the rides out to the dive sites may be long, 1-1/2 to 2 hours. I am no longer a big fan of long rides, or rough rides. Can anyone comment on the diving in La Paz generally, and about the boat rides, and also on The Cortez Club? Gracias.

Diving in La Paz is great and if you ask me, very worthwhile. But yes, boat rides tend to be long and you are looking for a full-day tour just for a couple of dives. Nothing wrong about that, but just be aware. If there is some wind, it can be an unpleasent experience. Bigger boats fare a bit better in tough conditions, but that also means bigger groups. If weather is fine, the ride can be awesome as you will most likely be sailing along Espiritu Santo island, which is absolutely stunning.
If you are looking into short boat rides, Cabo has probably the most accesible dive sites (5 min from the dock), but that also comes with its own set of disadvantages, of course. In the other hand, Loreto has 3 nearby islands and boat rides can take anywhere from 20 to 45 min.
