Good evening everybody,

First time poster, long time reader.. happy to finally get involved.

So, I am a newly qualified DM and I've decided the way for me is liveaboard's!

I suppose what im trying to gather is the following..

When it comes to applying for work on a liveaboard, what is the best way to go about finding employment?
Job agency's (do they exist for DM's?)
Forums
or just scourer the internet for companies that offer the service and email with hopeful prospects?

Id be truly grateful for ANY information you can pass on to me.

Thanks ;)

As a newly qualified DM I would guess you are going to need to get some experience in the area you want to dive. When guests board a liveaboard one thing they expect is that their dive guides know the area pretty well, it's pretty obvious pretty quickly when that is not the case! Where are you looking to work? No harm in contacting as many operations in the area you are going as you can and sound them out, have to start somewhere right!?

As a long time live aboard diver, I have no clue. We tourist are shielded from that tawdry side of the industry.

I suggest you directly contact head office of the various fleets and ask to chat with a bunch of captns.

I do know that the Explorer fleet crew are a great bunch having over 10 trips on their boats spread over many years (captns JF, Sandra & Ken). Peter Hughes is also just a normal guy (spent a week diving with him once in Belize) so I would not hesitate to recommend his operations.

So go to the source. Ask the operators directly. Stop pestering us real divers. We got fish to look at.
