looking for feedback to replace flooded camera

Been diving more than 22 years taking pics and as the saying goes... it's not a matter of if your housing floods, it's when and my canon g-10 did on the 1st dive two days ago in roatan!

Well now I have to decide if i want to get another g-10, move to a g-12 (have not heard great things about it though) or look at some other possibilites including oly and panasonic.

my main interest is macro and i use a subsee+10 with inon s2000.

one thing i do know is that i want to spend the money for a fisheye or rescea housing instead of a manufacturer's one.... the flooding was due to leaking through seals around the various buttons on the housing, which was only 3 years old

Theoretically, the new 4/3 cameras look very interesting. They have the same size sensor as the DSLRs. They are reasonably compact so they are not the size of a boat anchor. The cameras are expensive and so are the lenses. I guess you can't get something for nothing. I have the G11 and it is a very nice camera. I use the Ikelite housing with it. I think the Ike housing for leaks is pretty reliable but it does get out of adjustment which means sending it back to Ikelite (after 200 dives). You could go with an aluminum housing which would allow you to go with a wide angle dome also. The G11 and G12 are both limited at the wide angle side.

The G11 and G12 both do pretty well with macro and you might like the Ike system which will work with an inon wet lens.

I would have a good look at Olympus, their cameras are fine but that is only a small part of it. The main bit is the quality of their housing and the lenses plus add on bits you can get today. I have been diving with my setup for 3 years and coming from an aluminium Aquatica that was built like a tank and a nikon slr I was pretty nervous about floods in a new plastic system.

Floods are often reported here on the site but I have not heard of an Olympus housing (after the poor one for the e-500) flooding at all, let alone due to a fault in the housing. I hope I am not bringing the wrath of the gods down on me as I am going to Bali next week for 10 days.

Good luck with your purchase it is not a lot of fun. Confusing, difficult to get the information you want, inability to get your hands on it to try it out. All these and more make the step you are going through painful.

The Canon G12 is quite popular here in Norway. Personally I have the Nikon P7000. They recently released the Nikon P7100, and Fantasea has made an ok housing for it, with some quite nifty accessories for both lighting and holding "stuff" like dome and macrolenses.
