I am OW certified as of a week ago and I'm not doing AOW until August so I'm looking to do some dives between now and then and practice some of the skills. Is anyone willing to dive with someone with only 5 dives under their belt? I did my certification at Haigh Quarry but I'm willing to travel anywhere within an hour or so of Chicago. Thanks!

Tell Tina or Ben (the owners) you’re looking for a buddy when you sign in at the desk. Be honest about your experience level.

Great and friendly folks in the Chicago Scuba Meetup who dive a lot locally.

The Chicago Scuba Meetup Group (Chicago, IL)

Also. I've never had a problem finding a dive buddy at Haigh by just walking around and asking folks.

Thanks! I'm going to attend the meetup a week from tonight.

Thanks! I'll talk to them. I bought the entry and air fill cards to save a few bucks and they were super friendly.

I'm mostly going to be doing charters in May and June, but would be happy to dive with you in July/August (moving to Seattle at the end of the month).

That would be awesome! I'm gone the first weekend in July but after that my schedule is pretty clear on weekends. Hopefully by then I'll have a few more dives under my belt.

... speaking of south sides of things, I'm a Hyde Parker if you're close by?

Located downtown if we can find something that works out. Weekends on and off open.

I'm on the far southside but I often head downtown. Where do you primarily dive from?

Same with the weekends, I'm free starting in July most weekends though. Do you dive the lake?

I do a lot of my diving with Double Action Dive Charters, which is out of the Hammond, IN marina next to the Horseshoe Casino. This is a really nice feature for us southerners to be able to get to the diving quickly. If the weather isn't suitable for boat diving, I'm generally at Haigh Quarry (about an hour from Hyde Park) or Pearl Lake in South Beloit (about two hours out).

Depending on your comfort in the water and buoyancy control, I'd recommend at least 10 dives in inland water (less challenging conditions) before picking up a charter.
