This object came up in a trawl with some dead eyes and pieces of wood, Its copper and 15in in diameter. I think it’s a cap of a large oil lamp. I’m looking for an approximate date. I have a record of the tow and a number of losses on the tow path. Thanks.

That is definitely a mast head navigation light. The pictures are not clear, but is there any breathing holes around the tip? If not, then they are electric which probably puts them from 1890-1930s .

Brilliant, there’s no breathing holes. It’s possible it’s from one of these ships, I’ll check the tow and see does it cross any loss report positions. Thanks.
