Hi folks,

I've got a problem that is standing in the way of what could potentially be a great week of camping and scuba diving.
A freediving friend of mine regularly travels to a secluded cove and pitches a camp for a week or two, and dives all over the cove, he's invited my buddy and I along, and as we are into the whole wild camping thing, we are pretty keen on the idea.

There's one problem though, and that's cleaning the kit after the dive, I'm used to religeously soaking my kit in a bath of fresh water for a few hours after a days dive, and giving it a good swoosh around. The problem we have, is that we are limited by the amount of water we take with us, as we are not going to be very close to civilisation and my little 800cc car is going to be working hard just to carry all the dive gear, and 3 people. We have 4 cylinders, so I anticipate that we will be driving to get air fills once a day, but I'm not sure how keen the dive centre will be to use their facilities and let us clean our kit each day, particularly as other than air, we're not buying anything.

Does anyone have any viable solutions on how best we can keep our gear servicable for the week.

One option I did consider was a garden pressure washer, and a couple of 2 Gallon Bottles of water. I considered that should be enough to be able to spray the valves and important bits on the BC, and give the regs a good dunk.
Though wetsuits are likely to be spending the whole week salty and wet.

Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

As long as the gear remains wet, the salt will not dry. I would rinse the gear in the salt water after the last dive and pack it wet. By the time to reach home it will smell pretty raunchy, but you can then wash it correctly.

Get a bigger car.

Don't worry about it and clean it when you get home. Go enjoy yourself and xaler.

Plan on enjoying the trip. Your gear can survive a week of rough service, though I doubt it'll come to that.

Odds are the local shop will accomodate you, and let you rinse gear while getting fills. Retailers are not above spreading the welcome mat for visitors. (After all, it's not like you live next door and bought on-line)

If you're still concerned about the kind of welcome you might get, pick up a few beers on the way to the shop and be ready to socialize while doing the fills and rinse bit..

+1

enjoy the trip - your gear will survive a week without being cleaned. (It will smell, but it will survive!)

If you're really freaking about it, as DF says, pay for the fills up front and ask the shop owner if you can use his hose to rinse your gear. (Bring one of the large rubbermaid bins to haul your crap in so you don't get rinse water etc. all over your car...)

Your gear will be fine. Have fun on the trip.
