I have been diving since 85. I used a log book the first couple of years ...like maybe 2. Since then I have never kept one. Now I'm finding a few dive places like St. Lucia and even Bonaire are asking for them. What do I do.....get a log book make the dives up and enter a 100 dives or more since 85???? Guess I would have to make it look like it is 22 years old ???

Sounds familiar. I used to log every dive since 97 when I first put my head underwater. Past years, I do not log the 'regular' weekly dives. I only log special ones, like the dives abroad.

Since a couple of weeks I got myself logging software for my PDA (pocket PC) . This makes logging easier, since I do not need to make/buy new paper logging pages when da book is full. Even includes an buddy-autograph facility. I can synchronise with PC. Gives a new set of features, like attaching (underwater and above-water) photo's to it and reading the profile from the dive computer. :lam:

I think is good to occasionally log a dive in the 'oldfashioned' way, because there are a couple of countries where dive operators require that you can show recent experience. :no

I have never even logged one dive, in fact in St. Lucia I convinced one of the more respected outfits to let me dive without my cert card (had my expired temporary though), so I am shocked they asked to see a log bog.

Going to St. Lucia in July...I have only heard that some places ask for a log book. I read it somewhere. I do know that you have to do a check out dive with most places down there before you do dive. How was St. Lucia anyway?

I went for a week with a group of 40 men for a couple cricket matches two years running. So never really been extensively diving, only about 4 dives. Never did a check out dive either.

Of my dives in St. Lucia, everyone was at least good and viz was good every time. Do not miss Superman's Flight one of my favourite drift dives. St. Lucia as an island is pretty touristy and you have lots of options, but no real late night options. There is a strip joint somewhere in Gros Islet called solid gold (me thinks).

Where are you going to stay? and whats the trip dynamic? is it a family trip?

Does anyone you dive with on a regular basis keep a log? If so you might be able to get dates and locations from them. They might also be willing to sign off on those dives. I assume you have a ballpark number for the number of dives you've done. I'd estimate to the low side and start your log number there.

I use a binder with removable pages for my log book so when I travel I only carry my last 25 or so dives and pages to log my dives while I'm there. I've never run into a problem not having all my dives with me.

check out dive is good for new diver for safety concerned

Staying at the villas in Oasis Marigot for 940 a week. Flying down for free and staying a week. Plan to dive with fare helen since they have a shop in the marigot bay. Going with a girlfriend who is just getting her open water card next month. Then we are off to Bonaire in Oct. I saw a form for dives on line that you have to fill out for the resort in Bonaire. This is the reason for the post of this question on log books.
Did you make it to that Jump up on friday night when you were there???

Jeff, I have a ballpark of around 150 to 200 dives since 85. I have moved around in the last 20 some odd years so I don't have a dive buddy that could do this for me. The new girlfriend is currently getting her open water next month so she is the current buddy,,,but you know girlfriends ...they come and go :}
