Question Local divers, how do you motivate yourself when the weather is crap?

It's that time of year, the days are getting shorter and the rain is here. They are calling for a lomg cold winter and it's starting early this year.

Despite knowing that the vis is better and the water really isn't any colder, I find it hars to get motivated to suit up and go dive when it's cold and rainy out. I know, what's going to happen? I get wet?

I'm wondering what other people do to motivate themselves to get in the water omce the weather has started to turn for the year.

I happen to love the cold. I’m not sweating my butt off when gearing up and having to get in the water to cool off before I can gear up.

Everyone basically stops here after Labor Day. Kind of sucks....

Living in paradise where decent diving is just a short drive away, crappy weather means I have a list of other things to do. Dive when the weather is good. If I can't dive, I'm kayaking. If not kayaking, hiking. If not hiking, gardening. If not gardening then housework...

Literally came here to say this. Diving in cold (when you're prepared for it) is heaven.

During winter here in Nova Scotia I put my 7 mil farmer john on in the house, drive a few blocks to the real close site, do a 20+ minute dive, back to the house to change out of the wetsuit. So, I could dive all winter if I want to be in 30-40 degrees water diving wet. Doing a lot less of that now that I'm 70. As far as diving in inclement weather-- rain, wind & high surf/surge, etc.-- never had to do it. I was certified 19 years ago, a few years after retirement, so I could always pick my days.
