I am not sure if this belongs here so Mods please move if necessary but since wreck divers usually like a bit of history behind the wrecks, I thought this might interest some of you since it tells a little piece about how he survived:

I would say it definitely belongs here. Every diver who has been to the Andrea Doria has a connection with every person that was on her. Very nostalgic feeling since I just finished reading Deep Descent by Kevin McMurray. I was just online last night looking for U/W photos of the wreck. Today it is in shambles. It is amazing how much the ship has deteriorated. Gimble's Hole...the place many divers entered to look for Doria china...is no longer there. It looks as if the whole topside has just fallen off, now just one big debris field. Funny to read how the man's life went on...normal everyday life... of a die hard Steelers fan. Yep...I would definitely say your post belongs here. Think of all of the diving history surrounding the Doria...I would actually love to hear some replies from anyone who has dived on her...

I too would love to hear from anyone here who has dived Andrea Doria. And, if it is no longer a great dive "mt. Everest"... what is considered the current "mt. Everest" for the diving world. (I am just curious and love reading... I am just a warm water rec diver... but love to hear about the cold deep!).
