I don't think I could handle more than 2-3 days on a liveaboard.

Liveaboards have always been my first choice, and I prefer the small ones. Now, having said that, I must admit to several trips to Cozumel:D , and although the last few liveaboards we have been on were 12 passenger boats, our next trip (mid October to the Turks & Caicos on one of the Explorer vessels- Woo Hoo! :eyebrow: ) is on a bigger ship with plusher accomodations, so go figure. I like larger liveaboards, which translate to generally more room to move around during the SI and more places to escape guests which you may not get on with 100%.
I like longer trips, preferably 14 days. If I spend the time, money, and energy to travel to the other side of the planet to dive I want to spend as much time as possible there. Sail or power wouldn't matter to me, because I've never been on a live aboard that didn't have a noisy generator running anyway. The one liveaboard I've been on with sails only used it in limited conditions anyway and it didn't do much more than provide some stability and a slight increase in speed.
Mmmm....I'm not into barebones, camping, or sleeping on hammocks. If I dive 5 times a day I like a nice comfy bed to sleep in. If that's the only luxury I get I'm happy. Food should be edible but I don't need wine service, or sit down serving, or bed turn down, or bath robes, or bath tubs, or those kind of extra luxuries that I think is kind of a waste.

just like to get peoples thoughts on this topic
Anyway, regarding liveaboards I have no preference. Sooner or later, I'll end up getting on one, but at this point, I agree with what Perrone said.

spankey:
what do you prefer?

- small boat (4-12 persons including crew)
- larger boats 12+ divers?
- sail or power?
- upper class/luxuary or bare bones?

and then what would you expect to pay for a 7 and 14 day trip? and why would you be willing to pay a bit more for your liveaboard?

1. All of the Above

2. 1800 for 1 week; 3600 for 2 weeks (airfare not included)

I like a bit bigger say 16-22 passengers. To have a bit more space and usually some more amenities, and more variety of people. Power, I have no particular attraction to sailing and just want to get where I'm going. Defintely not bare bones. Prefer around 10 nights. .

I thought that I would only be able to stand 2 to 3 days, then we went to Australia and tried a 4 night 5 day trip.....why did we wait? A couple years latter we tried a liveaboard in Papua New Guinea....it was wonderful, why do people hesitate?

I have been diving since 1981 at mostly land based, I will still choose land based but when available would not be afraid of a liveaboard and would choose a liveaboard depending on the destination. An example...would be the Caymans, we've dove so often and been to many sites at all three islands that we would go land based. If Palau or Tahiti was an option I would choose liveaboard.

The rates are about 2K US per person for a week on a liveaboard @ 5 dives a day
vs. land based 1.5K US per person condo based for a week at @ 3 dives per day.
Of course this dollar amount will vary depending on the choosen area.
