I'm interested in doing a combination of liveaboard for a week in S Africa, a week of photo safari of animals/land sights and then another week on a liveaboard. I like all underwater creatures and don't have my heart set on any particular kind of shark over another other than seeing sharks up close. Cage diving would be cool to try out for a few dives, but certainly not chasing after them for a week. I guess I want to see it all, without any particular focus. Any links or positive experiences on SAfrican liveaboards would be great.

We are planning the same type of trip for 07. One decent combo is: SA Zulu Natal area for your dryland then Sodowana Bay for your diving. Or we are looking at some operations that offer diving in southern Mozambique and one resort offers a liveaboard. Most seem to be rib dives from the beach 2-3 per day. Most of the info we got from the Africa section here.

Thanks. I posted there too since I was uncertain if liveabooards were even that common in SA. I just received my lonely planet guide and am looking into the land activities as well. I found an operator that will take me to Sodwana Bay area and Aliwal Shoals area. I like the idea of doing all the normal diving, then safarai for a few days and back into the water for perhaps a few shark dives. The best part is I don't have to bring my drysuit. I can still dive a 5mm there.
