I'm considering booking a liveaboard to Belize. I'm a recently certified diver. Would this be ok. I'll be doing at least 7 or 8 dives before then.

Yup, in my opinion you'll do fine. And have a great time. In fact, I wanna go too.
:D

Seriously, Belize is fairly easy diving in many places, relaxing. And you can always dive with one of the boat's divemasters if you need help.

Have fun!

A liveaboard in Belize is a great idea for a new diver. Great viz, little or no current. The walls are awesome and so is the shallow part of the reef. I would not recommend doing Blue Hole. It's deep dark and cold. I really don't get why it is considered such a great dive. Either boat, Belize Aggressor or Sun Dancer are good choices. The differences are the price, with Sun Dancer being the cheaper of the two, the dive deck, Aggressors is much better, accommodations goes to the Dancer. Divers tend to be younger on the Dancer with the older grey gills tending towards the Aggressor. Crews on bothe are great. Have a wonderful time, go a day early and stay at the Port George Radisson, both boats moor at the hotel pier. This allows a day for luggage snafus.

I have not been to Belize, but if it is any thing like the Red Sea you will be fine.

We did a liveaboard in Belize with only about 25 dives under our belts, and it was great. Easy diving, easy navigation, and a lot of fun.

I would strongly suggest, however, that you consider spending a few days inland to explore the country. We combined our liveaboard with 4 days in the San Ingnacio district (stayed at a resort) and did excursions everyday, including going to Tikal one day in Guatamala. Amazing country, amazing ruins, definitely worth the time and money IMO.

Wife and I's first ocean dives (i.e. outside the local Quarry) were on a liveaboard - IMO, it was a great way to do it - with more dives planned over the week, there was no issue with taking it slow and getting things like weighting down in the first couple of dives. Also no guilt about sitting out a dive or two here and there. Assuming you don't have any reservations about spending the week on a boat (e.g. seasickness) it's a great experience even for a new diver.

Liveaboards are great way to enjoy some fantastic diving. If you're not already nitrox certified do it at your local dive shop or you can actually take the course on the boat. Doing five days a day it is big plus.

Also if you don't have a good dive computer get one before you go and learn how to use it.

With a good computer, nitrox and some great shallow diving you will turn into a prune.

Belize was my first dive trip after getting OW certified ... in hindsight I think it was the right choice ... you'll have a great time ...

awesome! I was leaning towards the Dancer.. Seems like a better setup and itinerary.

Itineraries are the same. You will always see the other boat anchored near by. It really comes down to price in my opinion, and I hear Dancer prices may be going up in the near future so don't delay in booking
