We would like to take a trip with our 25 year old daughter who loves diving. She's in med school so it is the only time she'll be able to take a trip like this for a while. We have been to Grand Cayman, the Bahamas, and Bonaire. We are considering going to Little Cayman or Grand Turk for a week.
Which place do you think has better diving: Little Cayman or Grand Turk? If we go to the place you prefer, where would you stay and which dive outfit would you use?

Thanks!

While place do you think has better diving: Little Cayman or Grand Turk?

I have been to both, I'd never go back to Grand Turk, but I'd go back to LC anytime. Little Cayman Breach Resort is THE place for me. There are other resorts on LC but not sure of their status now.

I've dove L.C. via liveaboard; haven't dove G.T. Have you been following any recent trip reports from G.T.?

I ask because some years back, judging from what I read on ScubaBoard, had I been heading to Grand Turk, I'd have aimed to stay at Bohio Dive Resort. @Hoag described what a trip there was like. IIRC correctly, that recently ceased to be an option, so now if I were planning a trip, I'd expect to have to research and pick an accommodation provider, a dive provider and maybe places to eat separately. @edoralive posted a Feb. 2022 trip report that might model how a trip might work for you.

Or...a trip to Little Cayman Beach Resort would offer a one-stop shop all-inclusive where people praise the food and the diving is said to be amongst the best in the Caribbean. There are a couple of other options, I think, and all seem to be well-regarded.

Neither place has a rep. for a happening topside, so I'd add up how many dives are on offer for a week at each (unless you are hammock and beach people).

Whatever you do, please post a trip report and let others know what you thought. I suspect a Little Cayman trip might be simpler to plan.

I think I've decided to stay at Little Cayman. But curious why you wouldn't back to Grand Turk?

Yep, was thinking the same thing. If Bohio was operational might have gone there, but looks like Little Cayman. The AI are pretty pricey and my daughter is pretty picky eater to pay for all of that food. However, I've actually found a few condos or places where I can just get a 2 bedroom/2 beds. Then I can pick my dive operator and either make food or try all the different AI restaurants for next time. lol

Hi @theshusters

Your daughter is very lucky, take her to Little Cayman and use Little Cayman Beach Resort.
LCBR is actually sold out that week, but they offered The Club at Little Cayman to us. Still waiting for rates. It has full kitchens and we can choose to eat or not to eat at resort. Does anyone thing 20 people on a boat is a lot?? Maybe that's just me. Been spoiled by a few outfits in different places that have 6-8 people:)

But curious why you wouldn't back to Grand Turk?

For me, I wasn't impressed with the diving and marine life there at all, not bad but nothing special and there are many other places in the world I'd want to visit with no reason to go back. LC on the other hand is in a different class compared with GT (Caribbean scale).

Southern Cross Club also gets very good reviews Trip Report - Little Cayman trip report

I've been to Little Cayman twice. We don't usually dive with the guide, can't comment on the group, but did not hear anything but postitive comments.

I've been to both Grant Turk (Bohio Resort) and Little Cayman (LCBR) a dozen times or more. My wife and I got married underwater at Grand Turk with a scuba ceremony.

Each place has it's own character.

Little Cayman has some pretty spectacular diving, and Bloody Bay Wall is the most incredible wall I have ever seen. However, I REFUSE to go back to Little Cayman because of Cayman Airways. That is the most miserable excuse for an airline, and I've never had a trip to Little Cayman that wasn't a cluster f%#k because of Cayman Airways. I am DONE with that place.

Bohio on Grand Turk is a really nice, small, relaxed, intimate place for diving. The resort is quite small, I think about 16 rooms. There is no current on the dive sites. The dive sites are 100 yards offshore. You do your surface interval back at the resort. The food is delicious. There is live music at the bar on weekends. When a cruise ship is in town, Bohio does get quite a few beach bathers. Downtown is a bit of a walk through poor neighborhoods, but there isn't much to see anyway. Bohio was heavily damaged in a hurricaine in 2017, and we haven't been back since. Until then, we had been going to Bohio every year.

Another alternative to consider is Providencialis in the Turks & Caicos. The diving there is not as easy, you get a regular hotel and the dive bus picks you up at your hotel, very long boat rides. But I was really impressed with the diving there, lots of sharks and current, and I'd love to go back a few more times.

The photos below of Bohio are BEFORE the 2017 hurricane, not sure what the place is like now.
