We're leaving for LC on 11/01/08 and were wondering what kind of conditions to expect, specifically regarding temperature and visibility. Also, have any of the hurricanes adversely affected diving?

We're staying at Little Cayman Beach Resort. Any tips/suggestions for first timers there?

Thanks.

Almost perfect conditions last w/end. Saw 4 nurse & 3 reef sharks on 1 dive at Jackson's Reef/Eagle Ray round Up. Aslo a reported sighting of a manta at Cumber's Caves.

We just got back from Little Cayman and the Little Cayman Beach Resort. The diving was fantastic. The water temp was 85F according to my computer. I dove in a swimsuit and rash guard. The viz was great, probably 100'. The dive operation is top notch. We had Alex, Neil, and Benny on our boat. The food at the resort is served buffet style and was excellent. Some of the rooms at the resort are being worked on. I don't know if it's from hurricane damage or routine maintenance. I"ll have some pictures ready in a day or two and will post a link to them.

Its kind of both, but neither: what you probably saw is the beginning of what is going to be a full rennovation.

The LCBR opened in 1993, so it was getting due to having a major rennovation done. It didn't have to be this year, but merely "soon". Then Hurricane Gustav did some damage....but more significantly, Gustav prompted the Cayman Government to cut import tariffs (tax) to help LC businesses rebuild. This cut in tariffs made it financially advantageous to change the rennovation plans from "Soon" to "Now", so that's what they're doing.

As such, the work was "caused" by the Hurricane, but indirectly (financial incentives).

There's no lingering effects from Hurricane Gustav.

For November conditions, I'd expect water temperatures to be around 81F and UW Visibility at around 100ft.

On-island, ask for directions to the west end's "housing development" where the iguanas hang out, then grab some bikes and some fruit and take a visit one afternoon. Bring along your camera.

Thanks for the info. I'll dive in any conditions, but the wife will be happy to hear the viz and temperatures have not been affected.
