i want to do my par to reduce the number of these things. i have a spear gun. do you need a fishing license or can you just spear them? thanks

I was just looking into this myself, as far as I can tell you will need a valid saltwater fishing license in Fl. to do any harvesting of any animals invasive, non-native or otherwise.

If you have a speargun or something of the like in your possession without a license, you are taking a chance. Last week I was pulled over coming through Hillsboro inlet with 2 guns onbaord. I was the only one with a license. FWC asked a very pointed question as to WHY there were 2 guns onboard with only one license. I told the officer the second gun was my backup, which it was.

Not sure if they would give you a hardtime with just a lion tamer, but the rules state that any harverting requires a license.
