Im in the process of choosing lights for my camera , Equinox HD6 + Sony Hdr Xr 520ve. After reading forums and watching lots of movies i`ve decided to go with Halogen. Main reason for Halogen is the good rendition of the red color. This movie inspired me. If you have some time free and care to help and guide me to the right path i`ll thank you

Should i consider something else?

Thanks,

It really depends on your requirements and diving environment.

I use myself 2 Brightstar Darkbusters, currently with a Sony PC350 and Equinox Housing (planning to upgrade to a Sony XR500V soon). These lights are very powerfull, and with the right diffuser (I use the thin white plastic found on Youghurt pots). These lights are very cheap (look for them on eBay), are 24 Watt HID, and seem to last.

I don't think Halogen or LED comes even close yet, unless you pay up to 4 times more for a high end LED.

Here is a sample of some video I shot in BC, on the wreck of the HMCS Saskatchewan.

This was in green, cold water with a maximum depth of about 100 ft.

Hope this helps, Dirk
