I use a DSS backplate in combination with a Dive Rite Venture wing. I currently just use the camband slots on the backplate to attach the tank. I want to add a STA, but I do not want to add any more weight to my rig because my trim is perfectly balanced as is. Moreover, I would prefer to keep the tank as close as possible to the plate.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in adavance.

Diverite makes a pvc/plastic STA. DSS backplates were designed not to require a STA, why are you looking to add a STA?

PVC STA? I'm interested, but I could not find it on the DiveRite website. Do you happen to pictures, specs, etc?

I've put about a 100 dives on my current rig without the STA. Once it's setup, it performs just fine. But, it takes me forever to align the tank perfectly straight onto the BC.

I have the DiveRite STA - it works well, though you can make your own which will be a smaller profile. I made one out of PVC in about 30 minutes which only moved the tank about 1/4" away from the plate - http://www.kidspot.org/personal/scubaboard/fincomparison.html - see the section on the STA for pictures and directions.

Aloha, Tim

If you want to use the backplate and wing slots, and just need the STA for stability, try the OxyCheq soft STA. Weighs 175gm (6oz), and puts the tank may 2 or 3mm further away.

Ifukuda,

I think part of the problem here is that you aren't using A DSS wing. Our single wing includes a small elastomeric cradle that centers the tank and prevents rock.

I would of course prefer the DSS wing be used, but it might be possible to add this piece to your wing. Depending on the wing there may be space to sew one in.

Why don't you give me a call. 626-799-5078.

Regards,

Tobin

Tobin,
Thanks for the offer regarding the cradle, but, it won't be necessary. I'm sure that adding a STA will would be just as effective without having to buy a new wing or without having to make modifications to my current one.

FYI: I'm not knocking your BP at all. I have only good things to say about it. I would be having the same problem no matter whose BP I was using. Moreover, performance-wise it's not really a problem at all...if I wasn't borderline OCD, it probably would not matter even if the tank was sitting a little crooked on the BC.

I've seen the Dive Rite Plastic STA, seems like a good deal to me, I use the SS STA from OMS, 'cause I prefer the weight it provides and shave some #s from my weight system.
