Fark.com had this article, with the funny tagline: "Scientists discover microscopic organisms found deep in the ocean able to sustain themselves despite crushing pressure. Preliminary photos show tiny helmets with Patriots logos on them"

Fark rules. Farkism: Duke sucks!

Not a bad article. They'll come under fire for that "Precambrian-DNA" interpretation, but overall BBC wrote a nice educational piece with few errors.

I'm not sure which is more amazing, life at such a depth, or the fact man has made a device to go that deep and bring back samples. Both are pretty impressive.

A number of years ago, my wife and I went on the 2 man sub ride on Grand Cayman down to nearly 1000 ft. We were amazed at some of the things we saw on that ride. One of the most beautiful areas started at 400 to 500 ft. where the sponge belt starts. The colors were incredible and this belt continued up to around 300 ft. where at that point it spread out and there was more fish life.
This depth of 1000ft. isnt all that deep when looking at how deep the ocean can be but it's deeper than we'll ever be able to dive. It was fun having that big glass bubble in front of you and nothing else.

Hmm... I should write for some grant money to charter that sub. 1000 feet is just deep enough to perform my research. Hope they have a manipulator arm.
