I'm on a budget and can't afford a can light. perhaps by the time next season rolls around I'll be able to afford one. In the mean time, I needed something to wear in the pool while doing drills so I could get used to managing the light head. So...

You are looking at a regular hand-held backup light converted to a can light with an extension for the light head and a belt loop. In my case, instead of using the DL4, I purchased two clearance Xenon Halcyon Scouts from Extreme Exposure, and I converted one to a wimpy can light with the extension kit.

I figure that when I get a real can light, the extension can be retired and I'll have two Scouts.

I saw this a couple months ago, and I can't wait to hear how this works out for you.

Nothing to chuckle about. Adam makes some good stuff and his idea for the extension makes for a nice little light.

So far so good, I'm now able to appreciate the over/under long hose question!

One issue was that the Scout lights use the same size light head and threading as a DL4, but have much closer tolerances. In fact, the Scout comes with a thinner o-ring and I had to switch rings to get it assembled properly. So anyone buying one of these for a Scout should try assembling it as instructed. If the light head gives trouble, switching the body and light head o-rings might help.
