Hello all,
Great stuff here. I will be receiving my s500 /w Wp 800 case early next week. This is my first digital so you'll be be seeing me often. I'm hoping my strobe from my ReefMaster outfit will fit the housing so I wont have to lay out for another strobe. What I was wondering is if there are any macro and / or wide angel lenses that can be added to the housing. I'll be practicing in the pool quite a bit till I get used to it. Thanks a ton

Inon make macro and wide angle lenses that fit this housing. Check out Yuzo in japan (www.uwdigitalcamera.com).
Sadly the reefmaster strobe does not really work properly with these type of digicams, I tried with my A70. The results are not worth the effort.

Any information on why it doesnt work properly?

1. the strobe is too powerful, and you have no power setting to reduce this (at night it was possible to get a proper exposure with high aperture and shutter).

2. The strobe does not cancel preflash - doesn't worry me because I shoot manual but if you don't the strobe will dump before the main flash and does nothing for lighting.

3. the sensor on the sealife strobe requires pretty specific positioning (no far enough from the lens). You could come up with some optical cable to fix this probelm and make your own arm system, but because of 1 and 2 why bother?

Inon makes a GREAT strobe... I am currently testing a prototype of theirs. It handles the pre-flash and does actual TTL metering. You see, the S-500 flashes three times. The first two flashes help the camera determine how much flash is needed and the third flash asctually exposes the subject. There are flashes out there that will "count" the flashes but they don't provide real TTL metering!

The Inon not only addresses the problem, but makes it a true "point and shoot" as it accurately determines the proper exposure.

I am also testing their fish eye, wide angle and multiplier.

Here are two land photos with the fisheye... and one underwater pic (we were mostly silted out that day due to a cavern class).

Thanks for that info Doc and FYI I live across the street from the Altamonte Mall
