hey there...has anyone read "SCUBA DIVING EXPLAINED" by Lawrence Martin (http://www.lakesidepress.com/pulmonary/books/scuba/welcome.htm)? Any thoughts on the quality of the information? Is there a better place to learn this type of info other than being out there? Is it worthwhile? I look forward to your responses. thanks.
Steve

I have not read the book you mention, but one book which is often recommended when people ask about reading material on this subject is Jolie Bookspan's Diving Physiology in Plain English. HERE is a review of it by Dr. Edward Kay at the University of Washington.

If you are looking for something more technical, the recommended text is Bennett and Elliott's Physiology and Medicine of Diving.

great links folks, thanks a lot. looks like no $ spend required as there is so much info here already. the only real concern I have is that we all know that if you read it on the internet, it *must* be true!

Note that the Rubicon website consists mostly of peer-reviewed scientific papers or abstracts...

Dr. Bookspan's work is a pleasure to read, and if you order it directly from her, she'll autograph it for you. I might suggest reading it first to get a basic understanding of the subject matter, and then dive into the Rubicon repository.

I don’t know your book and the link didn’t work.
I have Diving Science and as I just don’t ‘get it’ as easily as fascinated by it (science) found it very helpful. Told me enough and apparently in a way I could follow, I felt I learned a great deal.

Jolie's book is one of the best, if not the very best book for the general diving public.
