Got an A80 with an LCD issue. When I turn the camera on the LCD screen shows the Canon logo ... and the menus show up ... but there's no picture through the lens.

Wondering if this is just operator error, or if something is wrong with the camera. This isn't my camera ... belongs to a friend who upgraded and doesn't need it anymore. I figured it'd make a cheap backup, or perhaps a good camera to keep around for the occasional underwater photography class.

Anyone have this issue before?

I'm not familiar with that camera, but perhaps there is a menu option to turn the LCD image preview on? Since the LCD screen draws a fair bit of power, some actually prefer to use the viewfinder instead, so having an option to turn it on/off would make sense.

Thanks, that was my thought too. I did peruse the menus for a while and found no obvious choice of setting. I don't have a manual for this camera, though. I'll work on obtaining one.

Bob,

I have this camera, and there is a setting to disable the LCD viewer. I don't remember exactly what it is, and I'm at work so I don't have it with me. However, you can get a PDF file of the manual here, under Product /Software Manuals: Canon A80 Download Library . If you have any trouble getting it, let me know and I can email you a copy.

Hope this helps,
