Hey guys, I plan to dive in the Similan Islands in late Feb 2006.
Any experiences to share? I want to know how is Feb for Similan diving, I heard someone saying that the visability is not so good in Feb? Is that true?

Visibility will get a bit less later on in the season, due to more plankton in the water. When that happens exactly is hard to predict, plus it comes gradually. And: who cares if along with the plankton some other creatures visit the islands as well.

Normally visibility becomes gradually a bit less from March on.

February to May is probably the best time to dive the Similan Islands and other dive sites in the Phuket area. Seas get calm (the east winds die down), weather is hot, big fish start to arrive (no promises), its not peak season so flights and hotels are cheaper than Dec/Jan.

You have a huge variety of options on liveaboards, plus daytrips (a day trip is not really worth it in my opinion, too far for just 2 dives).

Vis should be just fine.

Also, while you are in the area, you really should try to dive at Hin Daeng and Hin Muang.

I dove early December with Seadragon on the Adaman ( departure from Khaolak ) Good boat, good crew, good food, everything was well organised. simple, not expensive. If you have enough time, you should dive hin daeng and hin muang also.

I would also highly recommend Sea Dragon located in Khao Lak. Very safe, fun and professional! Have a great trip!!
