Visiting Las Vegas in June (from the UK). US has different and greater range of dive gear than UK. Can anyone identify/recommend a dive store in LV?

Geography is a bit weak but aware that LV isn't the dive capital of the US!

Just off the top of my head

AAI Neptune Divers
Gr8 Divn
Sport Chalet
Scuba Views
Lake Mead Technical Divers

When you dive in Utah waters, Lake Mead is our Truk Lagoon.

Is that where they dump old Japanese cars?

Sport Chalet is a sporting goods chain. They'll sell - among others - Aqualung/Apeks/Suunto, Atomic, Mares, Princeton, Sherwood. Tusa and UK gear. And much of the Trident accessories line. Both stores Vegas have a pool for on-site classes. Their stores with pools typically have a better gear selection. You'll find more interesting stuff at one of the local shops listed above.

Thanks to all. Hadn't realised Lake Mead was in the vicinity. UK lakes are not on the same scale - but did Open Water many years ago in flooded clay pit. Memories are too painful - but zero viz with sub-freezing temperatures and massive buoyancy problems with major neoprene layers.

Moderator - do we have a thread for "Funniest Dive Experiences"? Will investigate. Recall a hysterically funny thread years ago on difficulties experienced donning or removing wet-suits.

For $650 you can dive Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay. Too pricey for me. Mandalay Bay | Shark Reef | Tickets The $30 tour isn't bad either.

The Dolphins at the Mirage are worth a look also. If you go check out the 20,000 gallon reef tank behind the lobby desk. Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat - The Mirage Hotel and Casino

You can sit on the same low wall as the Tiger (last photo in the slideshow) for as long as you like but there's no touching the dolphins. And there's an underground viewing window into the tank. I was there once when the trainers were working with the dolphins instead of just giving the tours - more interesting.

When I was there in October - alone; something came up and SWMBO had to cancel at last minute - I drove around and checked out all the shops. When I walked into each I said I was just checking out the shops in town and theirs was the first I was visiting. A few impressions:

Scuba Views - Staffed by a couple of Jr Dickheads; stated, "We're the only REAL diveshop in town." Tried the hard sell on their upcoming Mexico vacation. PADI shop.
Gr8 Divn - Good folks, chatted for a while with them. I'd recommend this shop - check out the Wall-O'-Vintage-Equipment in the training room! SSI shop
Dive Into Fun in Henderson - Another good shop. Smaller shop with a decent selection of gear. I probably spent a good hour there yakking. I'd recommend this shop. PADI shop.
AAI Neptune Divers - They weren't open the two times I got out there. NAUI shop.
Sport Chalet - Chain of sporting good stores, not a LDS. Didn't visit.
Lake Mead Technical Divers - No address listing, didn't visit.
