Ahoy there all you sea people and divers,
I've been living in France near the Pyrenees mountains for the last 5 years, slap bang in the middle, and miss the sea terribly. Even so I'm only 2-3 hours drive to either coast, Atlantic to the west or Mediterranean to the east, so it could be worse! There's some good diving to be had not too far from here, I have been to Cala Joncols, Spain (Med side) and that's a 4 hour drive form here. Going there again in a couple of weeks and then off to the Red Sea for a liveaboard dive safari to St Johns and southern reefs.
A few years ago, I spent 9 months living on a research vessel sailing around the south pacific, diving almost every day (when we weren't on a voyage) and researching the health of coral reefs, with PCRF, the Planetary Coral Reef Foundation. It was an amazing experience. I think they may still run apprenticeships, if anyone is interested.
