Hello! We are considering a second visit to Australia for 2 weeks over the holidays, roughly 22 December 2013 to 4 January 2014. My husband and I last went in 2005; we did a few days in Sydney, then up to Cairns for a week on a liveaboard out to Osprey Reef, and then a few days in Port Douglas. This time we'll be going with my husband's brother, his wife, and their 5-year-old son. So no liveaboard and much less of a diving focus on this trip. However, if we could find a nice beachy resort with good land-based diving for a few days... :)

I have a thought that I'd like to go south from Sydney rather than up north this time...maybe visit the wineries near Adelaide and Kangaroo Island? But I'm not completely set on that, especially if the diving opportunities are poor in that area. We can fly non-stop from LAX to Brisbane and then return from Sydney if that's the best option. If it was just adults, I'd consider doing 4-5 days in/near Brisbane, then flying down to Adelaide for 4-5 days, and then back up to Sydney for ~4 days, but I think that might be too much to ask of our nephew.

Any suggestions welcome - thanks!
