How are the lake temperatures doing so far? Is it warm enough to go without dry suit's yet?

It is if you're hardy. Did 2 dives today in conjunction with Mooring Day; temps were in the low 40s. I had about 42°F on the first dive, but on the second, (Terry's Tug), there was actually a thermocline: 41°F deeper than 40' and 45° above it.

Mind you, that corresponded exactly with the viz which was greater than 75' (our estimate), although dark, from about 40' to the bottom, and somewhere in the 5-10' range where it was warmer above 40'. Oh well, that's what we get for diving the Lake...............

Edit: Forgot to mention that there was one other Wetsuit diver on our boat. He came up quite chilly from the first dive. Maybe I do overdo the neoprene a bit............

Anybody have any idea what the temps are like in Rockport? I'm looking at doing the Keystorm and a few others in that area on the long weekend.

Well, week before last we were upriver even further and getting temps in the mid to high 40s. The current weather buoy at Superior Shoals just south of Mallorytown is reading 51.4°F.

Thanks for the info. I was getting a little worried with the mention of temps in the low 40s. But high 40s and into the 50s perhaps would be ok - not for me (you and I have been diving when water was transitioning from liquid to solid), but a dive buddy of mine who is coming along is not quite so tolerant.

Check this out too:

Was out at lock 23 this Sunday and the water was a nice 49F.
First time in a few months where I though to myself "hey, I'm actually warm".

We were diving in the St Clair River just south of the Bridge on the weekend and the water was a toasty 45F!
We even had 10 ft of viz. :)
