La Paz Dive Shops

I have the opportunity to stay in La Paz in a hotel/condo downtown near the "Malecon" or boardwalk.

If I choose to go, I would want to dive the entire week.

I'm looking for a dive operator that departs near the downtown area of La Paz.

The two operations I've found, Cortez Club and Cantamar, seem to cater mainly to resort/dive combonations. Cantamar did have some dive-only packages but they seem to be a bit of a distance from where I'd be staying.

I'm looking to see if there's a good dive operator close to my location. I'm also intersted in getting week-long rate or discount.

Any help will be appreciated.

One thing to consider about Cantamar is that they are considerably closer to dive destinations. So, you either drive the extra distance, or go the extra distance by boat. I think it's probably less time driving, but then again it's would be more convenient ending your boat trip nearer to your hotel.

We stayed with Cantamar last year (their dive op is actually called Baja Diving & Service). They have lots of dive boats, including 2 live-aboards. Even leaving from their resort it was up to 2 hours to some dive locations. El Bajo was a pretty cool dive.

By the way, when are you going? I believe late summer to early fall is the time for the "big fish", like hammerheads, giant mantas and whale sharks. That would be worth a little more research.

Thank you for the GREAT information! I'm just in the planning stages of some possible trips, so I won't be making any firm plans for a month or two. I had heard about late summer early fall being the best time for diving. I'm liking the half-board deals at club cantamar. I also found a map, and it does look like Club Cantamar is near the better dive sites. I may use the banked RCI week somewhere else and go to Club Cantamar.
