I have a tg6 with ikelite housing and I am wondering if the kraken krl-12 would be OK to thread into the plastic lens port threads on the ikelite housing. I read that the lens isn't very heavy. but, i am thinking metal threads into plastic with any weight might damage the threads or the port

I would carefully thread an adapter ring onto the port then use the adapter ring for everything. the lens weighs about 250 grams (0.5 lbs) above water and only 80 g below.

Like the bayonet type for quick release? Or do you mean add an m67 to m67 type ring

A few things.

1.As suggested you could use an adapter ring but any time you move a water contact lens further from the port it causes vignetting and edge distortion increases.
2. The lens you want is not terribly heavy and I would just screw it on and use it and if the port threads become damaged that leaves 3.
3. Ikelite is famous for their bread box plastic housings and they are even more famous for their absolute 100% support of their customers. They will fix it if you break it.

I think @bvanant meant 'flip adaptor', where one part is screwed on the port, and the attachment lens screwed on the other part. If you need it, you flip the attachment in, if not flip it out. I'd seem this most use with Macro lens attachment.

Like This one from AOI, or This one from ebay.

It depend on your housing design. If I recall correctly, Ikelite housing for TG has a short port, which would be better with the side-flip (like one from ebay above) rather than the back-flip type (like one from AOI above)
