 Any ScubaBoard members signed up for the April 7-14th Kona Aggressor trip?

Any suggestions re: pre-crusie hotel in the budget catagory?

Regards,
mjarens

if you are arriving a day before, I would stay right there at the King Kamehameha...... the boat docks right in front at the pier. Or you can stay at the Kona Seaside which is a short block away. They are the closest hotels. Uncle Billy's is another block down the strip but looks like a dump from the outside. They are all in the same price range but you need to make reservations soon as I would bet they are busy with spring break.

Greetings Robint,

Thanks for the suggestions. I stayed at King Kamehameha last June and was less than impressed. So, for about 30 bucks less, I will try the Kona Seaside this trip. They look equal. KK got 2 stars, KS got 2 1/2 starts on Hotels.com. Reader reviews seemed to lean towards KS. So I've booked there this trip. It's only one night and both are convienient for walking to restaurants, etc. The Aggressor crew will pick up my luggage at KS, so I don't have to get a cab. I'm looking forward to a week of diving.

mjarens thanks for the thread. My son and I will be doing the Kona Aggressor in August and I was going to ask about hotels for our pre cruise night but you've done it for me.

We stayed at the King Kam the night before we embarked and were happy enough. Some of our luggage had not arrived on the inter-island flight from Honolulu, and the hotel staff was helpful in dealing with the airline. We got the bags later that night and had the impression that this is not at all unusual.

The night before embarking on Kona Aggressor is a Friday night, and the hotel stages an elaborate "luau", for a big price. and a show which is heavy on the grass skirts, bongo drums, ukeleles, fire-eating, etc. You could skip this and be none the worse.

We loved the week on the Kona Aggressor. Our only regret is that we didn't plan to include an extra day or two at the end of the cruise to also do some land-based things.

tvictory,

I stayed at KK for one night before my last Kona Agg. trip June 06. KK was just o.k. Thought for about $40 less I'd try the Kona Seaside this time. It's just as convienint, less $$, and got good reviews re: cleanliness.

I will spend my Saturday shopping at the local dive shop and hanging out at the pool at KS. Then hop down to the dock for the 5:30 boarding.

Two weeks for today......I'm there!

mj,

Have fun! Be careful shopping. Before leaving, I went out to pick up some coffee and Macadamia nuts and wound up spending $130.

tvic,

Oh, it may be worse than that for me. If I can't find a better fitting wetsuit (than my current one) at the LDS before I leave for Kona, I'll be stopping into Jacks Diving Locker to try a few on. That will definitely cost more than a pound of coffe and some Mac Nuts! LOL
