Anyone happen to know whether Kona Aggressor gets cell phone reception while out to sea?

I had perfect reception every night at dock, and even most of the days.

They call it the 'Cell Phone" Aggressor trip for that reason. if you want to stay in touch, you can.

I was even able to poach wireless on a couple of nights.

The cell phone stays home, man!

Yeah, I wanna be relaxing on deck, with the sun shining brightly, the waves gently lapping against the boat, the smell of the salt air, and some dope yapping on his cell phone all day telling the office to order 9,000 widgets for the upcoming trade show in Cleveland and to be sure to ship that big order out to the customer in Milwaukee.

Leave it home, unless you want the opportunity to do a "Search and Recovery" specialty class!

:-)

Or you may have a special needs child, and this is your way to be able to "get away" and still be reached in an emergency.

Or you may be running a successful business (not that most of you would know anything about that) but may need to be reached if there is a crisis or emergency.

Or your remaining parent may have been diagnosed with cancer (as was my case) and you're damn glad you could be reached.

Get a grip people - nobody is yammering away. If you're so important and uber successful that you've reached the stage in life where you can flip the bird to the world and be 100% off the grid for a week, be grateful. You billionaires don't go on the Kona aggressor anyway.

If you're just Joe Nobody, who finally scratched together enough cash for you and your wife to go on the cheapest of all the Aggressor boats, and at this stage of your life you really can't be 100% off the grid, be polite if you need to use your phone and shake off the jealous clowns posting to this thread.

If you're posting to this thread, trying to jam the original poster just because you're a bitter turd who hasn't ever been in a situation where people you love needed to reach you during your vacation, ask yourself this: have you ever pulled over to a Denny's while on a roadie just to hear your kid's voices, or call a friend from your hotel because you just saw the most amazing stuff on the morning dive - if you have, shut the heck up, hit the back button and return to your MOF thread and leave this guy alone.

Sometimes this place dissapoints in so many ways.

lthyen - have a great trip and enjoy your diving.

Your point is well taken, but let's not be SO naive to suggest that the vast majority of cell phone calls made in public by the vast majority of people in the world are not of the "...and then I said 'TWO sugars' but the guy at Starbucks only gave me ONE..." variety.

The two percent of the world that actually needs a cell phone every minute of every day tends to actually be much more discrete about their use.

I'm doing the Kona Aggressor this summer with my older son. I had assumed we would have cell phone service. For me (self employed) it would be nice to call my younger son a couple of times during the week and check for emergency messages from clients. Other than that the phone stays off and in my cabin.

Mr Motivate,

You made a whole lotta assumptions, talked a lot about people you know nothing about, and jumped way off the deep end on those comments. I thought you were defending your familys honor rather than just a phone call. I'll take the deep breath you didn't before replying to the unnecessary.

My point to the guy was, on any vacation, forget about work and the world for a bit. That's the point of vacation. People forget that. That was for his benefit, to a fellow diver and person to enjoy the diving before it's over, not an attack on phone use. That was completely my angle you so misinterpreted.

Need to make a call? Go for it. Who cares. No matter what it's for.

However, since YOU brought it up, if their phone booth is in an inappropriate place too many times, not considering our experience, then HELL YEAH I wouldn't want to hear that. WE ARE DIVING HERE. This is equal consideration here. The ocean, the fish, the sharks, that's the focus.

And what sucks about this board is that very few people can take someone's comment as just another's opinion. They must ridicule and change the unbelievers opinion because it doesn't match their own. I pick and choose among the opinions given or even throw them all out. Taking a given opinion is not a requirement to getting it. I didn't take yours. See? It works. Consider that the next time you go vigilante.

The only reason I responded was due to that amazing life experience you've amassed to pin us down on all those life aspects. Money, life, relationships with others, it's amazing. But mistakes on all counts there, motivator. My life experience is telling me what you haven't learned.

I gleaned one kernal of info. The Kona Aggressor ain't for me, bud. My dive buddy, Bill Gates, is going to be darn disappointed. We'll just have to buy an island somewhere else.

Some cell phones get reception, but not all. The Aggressor has a ship to shore phone
if needed. I used it once and there wasn't a charge, I guess as long as it is important
and you don't abuse it.
