I trust you enjoyed the show. I will be there for the second half of the show but depending on when you plan to travel, you may like to look at our website for current availability of a variety of options in Komodo - Live search for dive liveaboard spaces The above boats are also excellent and you can find their availability on our site. Happy to answer any questions you may have on the pros and cons of each. dom@diveadvice.com

They probably weren’t at the show but Komodo Dive Center’s Mastro Aldo is great and excellent value for what it is. AC, 4 divers to 1 guide ratio, private bathrooms but not ensure, and good food! The only drawback is that there’s no nitrox.

Hi ppina!

You’ve picked out some lovely boats for a trip to Komodo. When were you thinking of making the journey?

In terms of comparison, here are some things that might help you make a decision:

1. Length of Trip - The Sea Safari boats offer shorter trips (most are less than 7 days), while the Samambaia has only 11 night trips and a limited schedule this year. The Indo Siren has 7 and 10 night trips on its schedule.

2. Size of Boat - Most of the Sea Safari boats are smaller than the Samambaia and the Indo Siren. The latter two are 131-foot yachts.

3. Amenities - The Sea Safari boats have a few less amenities included. Both the Info Siren and the Samambaia offer free Nitrox. In addition, the Samambaia has free WiFi. Of course, the price reflects these additions.

4. Schedule - The Samabaia has a limited schedule for Komodo in 2018.

Other than that, all three offer luxury phinisi schooners and a great diving schedule. Let us know if you have any other questions! Hope you enjoyed the dive show!

To me there's one thing about LOBs that matters more than anything - the ease of ins and outs, especially from the LOB to the tenders. I like the metal LOB boats because usually the tenders back right up to the dive deck and there are only two or three steps involved, and a large platform for them to help you in and out. I hate those long stairs down to a small platform to get on the tenders.

But that's just me. Others might not have that sensitivity.

there is also grand komodo on the budget end and the blue manta/white manta, mermaid, and aggressor boats on the higher end

I think nobody does Nitrox in Komodo because of the possibility of down currents ...

From my experience, currents in Komodo are predictable and with an experienced cruise director, down currents are rarely an issue. For repetitive diving, Nitrox is helpful and is offered on many LoB’s @Komodo.

I know there are non-budget boats that do offer it there. Like @charlier, I did not have issues with down currents or any currents that made the dives a bad experience. We had a really experienced group of DMs/an excellent Director. He was always paying attention to tides and current and checking it. We had a great time!

I did extensive research before booking a future trip to Raja Ampat and decided on the Samambaia so I booked the entire boat. I was very impressed with the owner and a few of his staff when I met them at DEMA. They have also received excellent reviews right here on ScubaBoard from folks who have been on her.

Note that the Siren fleet has lost numerous boats in the past few years.
