I spent an amazing eight days from late July into August aboard the La Galigo Liveaboard in Indonesia's Komodo region.

La Galigo is an ironwood Phinisi that was built in 2012. She is 108 feet long with a 26 foot beam. A very stable and comfortable dive platform. At full capacity she holds 14 divers. She pulls two tenders. All cabins have ensuite bathrooms and individual AC. The salon is beautiful and large. It serves as the dining and meeting area.

The Komodo itinerary embarks at La Buan Bajo, easily accessible via a modern airport from Bali. I arrived the day before embarkation and overnighted at the Meruorah Hotel which sits on the waterfront.

The crew was phenomenal. Very professional and caring. Very safety conscious. The Cruise Director was very experienced and managed the flow of the trip very well. The restaurant staff was outstanding. The food varied by day with a mix of cuisines. You could not go hungry...

The Dive Masters were excellent, providing detailed and thorough briefings, which were especially important due to the Komodo currents. They were great at pointing out smaller marine life, with each guide assigned to four divers. The Cruise Director also joined at least half of the dives. T

The diving was very good. Very healthy hard and soft corals. Many tropical fish. Yellow, grey, pink and black frog fish! Octopuses including Blue Ring. White tip sharks and reef mantas. The currents could be challenging and fun. Difficult for photography at times, but exhilarating at sites like Shotgun. Water temperatures ranged from 75 to 81. The cooler temps were in the south. The weather was picture perfect. Abundant sunshine and mid 80 air temperatures. The dive deck has fresh water showers for rinsing off after removing your gear.

We made four journeys to land on board the tenders. We visited Gili Lawa, Pantai Merah and Padar islands. We made late afternoon treks up the hillsides on two of the islands to watch amazing sunsets. One of the sunsets included a view of the sinking sun passing a volcano! Pantai Merah island is home to "Pink Beach". Fine grains of red coral mix with the sand creating a pink hue. We celebrated a passenger's birthday sipping sparkling wine on the beach. Our final stop was at Rinca island to visit the Komodo Dragon viewing area. It did not disappoint. Komodo is a World Heritiage Site.

This was the Ultimate Komodo itinerary. Eight days and seven nights. La Galigo was repositioning to Raja for the season at the conclusion of this trip.

Very enjoyable trip. I highly recommend La Galigo.
