^ I agree completely. One of the reasons I came to Thailand in the 70s was because there were still a few 'great last places' around. Koh Samui was one of them. That didn't last very long. Koh Chang has the potential to go either way.
 
I enjoyed a week of diving on Koh Tao back in 2001. When I dive, I'm not much of a partier (or a napper)... diving is first and foremost. However, I had no trouble finding morning dive boats. I'd prefer to dive all day to maximize the video footage I can obtain on a "short" trip so I'd be looking at operators who run all day or morning/afternoon boats.
