I'm looking to get a full kit pretty much (BCD, Reg, Fins, Bag) before I go to Sipidan at the beginning of August. I'm living outside of Tokyo and prices in Japan are pretty outragious for diving gear.

I have an overnight flight to KL and then my next flight to Tawau doesn't leave till the evening. I have a little under 12 hours.

Is Rainbow Runners the place I should be going to buy a full set up? And I don't need the best stuff, but I don't want the cheapest either. Can I get everything for a $1,000 or less?

u can try Planet Scuba - Planet Scuba

Look for Mr. Guru he is the shop manager, they sell Aqua Lung products mostly...$1000 for the items u mention..em..em...depends on what brand and requirements are...best is since u ve 12 hours free time go to thier shop to ve a look and try on the product if possible...maybe the transportation form KLIA to Bangsar(shop) a bit costly...u can take the airport train to the center and take a taxi to Bangsar.....

12 hours is a LOT of time. Take a cab from the airport to Rainbow runners (note they are closed on mondays) and if you don't see what you're looking for, then head over the the alternative. You can grab a cab from the berjaya times square on the opposite side of the road and buy a coupon (so you don't get ripped off) from the ticket office next to the taxi stand. Taxi will cost you RM60-RM90 from KLIA to downtown KL OR you can save yourself some cash by jumping on the ERL train (RM35 per way) to KL sentral, head up to the 1st floor by taking the escalator, buying a taxi coupon from the counter next to the KTM train station ticket office and then head over to rainbow runners.

You may consider negotiating with the cab driver and paying him extra to wait for you whilst you buy what you need and then to send you to KL Sentral where you can take a train (RM35 per way) directly to the airport in 30 minutes and save yourself RM60.

Just my suggestion.
