The Bay Islands are not the mainland. Roatan is not San Pedro Sula. Utila is not Tegucigalpa.

I can't speak for Roatan but on Utila it is safe to walk around at night. Be sensible. Don't do what you wouldn't do at home and you'll be fine.

You can fly direct into the Bay Islands if the thought of the mainland is too scary. Still, the vast majority of our customers arrive to us via bus travel on the mainland although without a doubt the least risk way would be to fly into Roatan airport.

You can also fly into San Pedro Sula airport and then fly to Utila or fly to La Ceiba and take a cab to the ferry terminal, also a low risk way as you stay in the airports.

If you need to travel on the mainland and you are unfamiliar with Honduras then it is worth asking advice on the best way to do so. The best bus companies, organizing flights or cabs, etc. Which hotels, etc.

Recently published statistics say nothing about location, circumstance, etc.
