Hi. Has anyone heard of a death on Monday, maybe Sunday, of a diver in Key West. My good friend is reported dead of a dive accident, but I haven't been able to find any details. Has anybody heard anything?

I hope I am wrong, but is this it?

A Chicago man died Monday while diving at Looe Key in the Lower Keys on Monday, becoming what is apparently the eighth dive- or snorkel-related death of 2010 in the Florida Keys.

Details were scarce on Tuesday, but the Monroe County Sheriff's Office says Scott Filippini, 46, was aboard a dive boat from the Looe Key Dive Center at mile marker 27.3.

He was in about 27 feet of water when he surfaced and appeared to be in distress. He was pulled on board the boat not breathing, cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed. He was brought in to the Dolphin Marina on Little Torch Key, where paramedics took over treatment.

They took him to Fishermen's Hospital in Marathon, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy will be done to determine the cause of his death.

Staff at the Looe Key Dive Center couldn't be reached for comment.

Yes, that's him. Apparently, there aren't really anymore details than that. Thanks for posting it, though. We're all trying to get a handle on it up here.

I am very sorry!

That is all I could find when I searched.

Thanks. I must suck at searching. I couldn't find any of that!

Well let it slide this one time:D

Things can be missed when something like this is going on. Jax posted the source. Thanks Jax!

Kombiguy, you're certainly excused, as this was your friend. I'm sorry for your loss.

As you probably know, any info you can get on what happened down there is very much appreciated on this board, so that we can learn from it and hopefully avoid it in the future.

Please do keep us advised.

Trish
