Can anyone suggest a good operator that caters to newly certified divers (in this case, a 13 yr old?) thanks!

You might get a better response down in the Florida forums, but I can offer some great places to use:

Google these:

Key Largo:
Silent World
Bluewater Divers

Tavernier (just a few miles below Key Largo) :
Conch Republic Divers

These are places I've used (or in the case of Silent World heard about and will use at some point) that are top notch!

Enjoy!

Tavernier (just a few miles below Key Largo) :
Conch Republic Divers

+ 1 with (CRD) Conch Republic Divers

Hall's diving center in Marathon was also pretty good too...

We used Amy Slade for our first ocean dives.
Would I use them today - no but they did a good taking care of us as new divers and I would recommend to a new diver.
My issue now would be the number of divers they take out on the boat.

Hi Izzy, Welcome to Key Largo.
There are more operators in Key Largo than gas stations, most are very good at accommodating new divers as most of the diving is shallow, clear, beautiful reefs and wrecks. Lots of great info in this thread http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/florida-conch-divers/362149-florida-keys-guide.html. If you start searching the FL Conchs forum, you will find that Key Largo is an often discussed topic with info specifically about dive sites, training, dive ops (many participate on Scubaboard, so don't hesitate to contact them), conditions, temps, eateries, etc. There is something for everyone in the Keys. Don't hesitate to call various dive ops and chat about what they have to offer, and get a feel if they are right for you.

If I can answer any questions for you, please don't hesitate to PM or call. Whether you dive with me, or one of the many fine ops here in Key Largo (I have friends working at many), we all want you to have a great experience.

While you are in Key Largo, please stop by and say hi :wavey:.

Elena,
I have been reading throught the others threads and didnt realize you were a dive op until now. We would have looked you up if we had known because I recoginized your name. I suggest you make the link to your website larger or more obvious for old grannys like me.
thanks
