Where are the best places to dive giant kelp forests, outside of California?

I'd have thought the PNW would be an ideal area, but from what I've heard, it's mostly bull kelp up there.

How about SE Alaska? Or off the coast of Maine?

No. primarily the California coast is the premier kelp diving in N. America.

The East Coast does not have any.

Drat, there goes my incentive to dive Alaska and Maine...

I dunno about Alaska, but I don't believe Maine has kelp of any kind, at least I've never heard of it, but Maine does have nice diving, cold, but interesting what with the rock formations, geology, and lobsters.

Good point, as long as I'm there anyway. But now there's no reason to make a special trip. Sigh.

Can you tell I really love kelp forest diving? :)

Probably dove in the Channel Islands I'll bet? It's nice there, kelp stalks fifty feet high.

Dove them up in Monterey also.

There's some up in the Puget sound as well, although not as big and exotic.

Yeah, several trips ranging from San Clemente to Monterey Bay. Love the stuff. :D
