An idea came to me that I could do some diving off my kayak. I have a full size tandem kayak and tried getting off and getting back on again with ease. However I couldn't take a dive buddy with me since I would not have any room for the gear. That is until I thought of dragging the gear behind the kayak with something like this.

Does anyone have practical advice for diving from kayaks? Or maybe you know of some books or internet references? I tried but with very limited success.

It depends. There is a form of kayak diving where the tank stays on the kayak and the diver is breathing off a 50 ft hose. Like this this its own entire thing with its own community. If you are doing standard diving off a kayak there are several ways to do that. One way would be to lash your bcd and tank to the bow or stern of the kayak. Than get into the gear in the water. But you will just have to try and see what works for you. Let us know how it goes. I have wanted to try this for a while. Just make sure you are really good at getting in and out of the kayak. Good luck.

Two SCUBA divers on a tandem kayak, hmmmm, uh, no. I cannot say for sure that it will not work or that some do not do it but I have never seen anybody towing a sled behind their kayak with gear. I have towed a float with a dive flag on it because Florida has weird laws that require a 24 inch flag aboard a vessel but an 18 inch flag if on a float and it definitely interfered with my progress feeble as it was. But I have decided since given the high speed boat traffic and cell phone fascination that a large flag is wise even if I could tow the flag float. But, back to tandem diving from a single kayak. It will be really crowded. Really, you each need your own boat, something like an OK Scrambler 11 would do fine. N

A buddy and I went kayaking and I brought my gear. It was a tight fit for 2 people and gear for me, let alone gear for 2 people. I wouldn't recommend doing what we did let alone gear for 2

They make a kayak for this purpose one yak per diver tho.

Sent from my galaxy S5 Active.

You can get a decent size used johnboat and small outboard for as much as those ridiculous kayaks cost.

Plus you will be safer and more comfortable.
