With a 50' hose you are only good for about 30' of water so I do not use BC, just weight myself properly, the way I used to do it before BCs were invented.

Good enough! Your entire concept sounds like a good way to go.

Glad I could help. You could also use an oral inflating snorkel vest for flotation at the surface if you wanted to add an extra layer of safety.
