does anyone know if the gadget they used in the movie "THE CAVE" to map the tunnels is really made? where can one find one if they are?

Those were props in the movie. The props were sold on ebay for about $75. The looked good, but there really isn't a handheld underwater sonar device that will map a cave quite yet. :D
 
Yep, forgot to metion, the WKPP ones were scooter mounted... not exactly hand-held. Persoanlly, I'd prefer the scooter although I plan on staying away from the ones that blow up when you let them get away from you.
 
I want to know who makes the in mouth regs where you can talk through.....so clearly!!
 
hmmm exploding scooters, regs you can talk through and a device that doesn't really exist. Oh yeah and bacteria that turns you into a monster. gotta love hollywood. LOL!!
 
Not to be a know-it-all, but I talk through my reg all the time. I'm not sure anyone is listening, but I'm talking... :)

Back in World war II (which was a long time ago), the German tank crews had microphones that worked from the sound in the throat not out of the mouth so the message would be clear without the ambient noise in the air getting transmitted. Perhaps someting like that would work underwater?
