Yes, by now we're all quite aware of UP's admonitions to stay away from those dreaded computers as they rot your brain. We've seen him echo this battle cry in many a thread. We've also seen him be a big advocate of the ranger->ebay- >bp/wing maneuver, horizontal ascents/descents and dir approved, Trident chewing gum.

His consistent prodding has been infectious and others have now begun to pick up his rallying cry and work on converting the masses.

With him wielding so much power, I wanted to learn more about this Uncle Pug. Is he the jovial, cud chewing camel, the boat, the drysuit diver .... or something else?

To find the answer I went to the one true source of information, Google.

Okay so I didn't go straight to Google, but I went to someone closely associated with the Google, Googlism. But I digress ...

And so I asked Googlism, "who is uncle pug?"

and this is what the all knowing entity said ....

uncle pug is actually a computer program developed by proponents of gue/dir

So you're saying that our beloved and often opinionated Uncle Pug is an A.I. program set loose upon the scubaboard by some unseen and unknown person or group?

Kind of like the Wizard of Oz?

"Pay no attention to the programmer at the keyboard, gaze only into the eyes of the elongated faced camel with the big hairy grin!"

Wow, this is intrigueing.

LOL - Just goes to show you what the value of a Googlism is.

I guess we can put him in the same category as R2D2, or the robot from lost in space.

Now that is funny! The search seems to be legitimate and that makes it even funnier! .........Busted at last!

I just have one question, who's the old guy behind the curtain? :D

but..

dir approved, Trident chewing gum.

I think you may be taking Pug's admonishments the wrong way. Read the *reasons* behind the methods he endorses. I don't believe he does anything simply because it's "DIR".. and neither should anyone else.

BTW, do a google groups search.. find the right words, it will be easy to track down a lot of interesting info.... and a lot of really fascinating posts

I dunno, "World War 2" brought back this:

world war 2 is well worth having for anyone interested in the exploits of corsair fighter pilots

Paul Bunyon, a myth that is larger than life itself.

He is the uncle you always wanted to have, but never did.

He lives in all of us, he is eternal and has always been and will forever be.

He exists in our minds and our hearts.

He has chosen to communicate through Scuba Board to us and share all of his wit, wisdom and knowledge.

Hope this helps.
