Me and My wife and son have just began classes in Kissimmee, Fl . We had our first pool class Thursday things went fairly well we have to work on the underwater swim while holding breath. We have spent a lot of time snorkling in the Key Largo area

P.S. Due to the high volume of new posts in the Introductions and Greets forum, it's not always possible to keep up with all the new posts here. So, please help me out and send me a PM if you post anything you want me to read or respond to in this forum.

:azvatar: Hello there Bearmanatee, my name is Matt and I wanted to welcome you to the community. I think it’s the best board on the internet for divers. The people on here make it a really friendly place. It’s a great place to see what’s going on with divers. Just wanted to make you feel welcome! If you’d like to chat, please PM me.
Take care and safe diving. :japanese:

No experience needed and it feels great!

Welcome! You'll have the best times with your family exploring the underwater world!!

Why do you have to practice swiming while holding your breath? You will find that in your SCUBA class you are taught never to hold your breath.

Instructors, is this something new that is being taught???

Welcome to the board. Good luck with your classes - I am sure all three of you will be fine. Which organisation are you doing your classes under? I am not too sure of which ones require you to swim underwater holding breath. I am with PADI and I am not even tested for that at Divemaster level. The only organisation that tests this, that I know of, is GUE but then they only accept "qualified" divers. Regardless, feel free to post on the board and you will find there are many people here only too willing to share their thoughts and experience with you. Safe and happy diving.

Welcome to the board!! Don't worry we don't bite, too hard.

I thought the same thing when I read "underwater swim while holding our breath". Why oh why would they teach you that so that you can unlearn it??
