I just got an Oly 7070 with Ikelite housing and DS-125 strobe this weekend (a sharp upgrade from my Sea&Sea MX-V) and was hoping that, if it wasn't too much trouble, someone can give me some advice/tips to help with the learning curve. While I'm just amazed that I'm already able to set up the system in the housing and take pictures (without too much difficulty), I can use help on a few other areas (I already know the rule of get closer). As I'm sure you can see from the questions, I'm a novice at this.

1) Settings: are there certain settings that I can put in "My Modes" that work well under water in super-macro, macro and wide-angle situations? Keep in mind that the Oly's internal flash will not fire in super-macro (is this a draw-back?).

2) Keeping in mind that the internal flash will not fire in super-macro, would you recommend using the DS-125 strobe for super-macro and macro shots?

3) The Oly-7070 has two u/w settings (macro and wide-angle), do you think I should be using them? What's the benefit v. disadantages?

4) For the strobe - should I just use the TTL-auto flash or should I be manually adjusting the flash-output? If I should be adjusting it, for what type of shots should I be using full flash v. 1/4 or 1/2?

5) Where should the strobe be positioned? Should it generally be far off to the side, more above the camera, behind the camera?

6) Should I be using the modeling light on the strobe all the time underwater?

7) I didn't buy the wide angle dome port or wide-angle lens yet - do you think they make a huge difference? If I put the dome on the housing, am I able to shoot super-macro through the dome port or will I basically be limited to wide-angle photography and if I see a clown fish, I'm crap out-of-luck?

Sorry for the plethora of questions - Any help is appreciated.

Heheh... congrats on the new camera, I'm thinking of upgrading too, so will be interested on the replys... a lot of questions to be sure...

I think I would just start simple. TTL mode until I got a feel for the camera/strobe.
Then to manual starting at an F-5.6 at 1/100th speed and shoot a test shot.
Then, and this has been covered in a lot of places (haven't checked the link above yet) but adjust accordingly...
I'll stop there, as it has been covered in other threads, and the link will probably cover it better.

Good luck on the camera, post some pics and keep us posted... hopefully upgrading soon.. heheh..whenever that is...
